  • A Technology Wake-Up Call: My Spoiler Free Review of “Leave the World Behind”

Let’s dive into “Leave the World Behind”, a Netflix film that’s more than just a story – it’s a critical examination of our readiness for technological upheavals. As a technology designer/advisor for over 40 years, I see this not just as a narrative but as a crucial lesson in advanced home preparedness. Set against the backdrop of Long Island’s East End, the film highlights the undeniable need for comprehensive home technology solutions. I’m talking about energy storage, robust security systems, dependable communication tools, and yes, even panic rooms and or bunkers, which I have noticed the growing trend of these installations over the last few years in the homes and estates we service. These elements are vital for protecting not only your family but also invaluable assets like art, collectibles, and family heirlooms. Amidst these crucial themes, the film poignantly addresses our reliance on technology for entertainment. One scene, where a character is unable to watch the final episode of “Friends,” echoes the frustrations my clients would avoid by owning a Kaleidescape movie server. This invaluable technology ensures uninterrupted access to your personal library of movies and TV shows, even when conventional streaming services fail. As a musician, the record playing scene in the film resonated deeply with me. It reminded me of another growing trend among the younger generation who are embracing the timeless appeal of vinyl records. Yet, in our digital age, there’s also a significant shift towards storing music on private servers. I enjoyed watching the film and recommend it. It realistically captures the immediate stress and disorientation caused by the loss of our tech-dependencies in just a weekend. While the idea of lighting a candle and delving into a novel may seem quaint during a blackout, we should all consider the profound dependence our essential services rely on technology, especially healthcare. In our increasingly fragile digital world, what does being prepared really mean to you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments or email me at info@bri-tech.com .   Responsive. Reliable. Ready. • The Smart Home Gets Even Smarter

by  LANA BORTOLOT  on SEPTEMBER 20th, 2023 , Southforker If you ask Brian McAuliff,  CEO and founder of  Bri-Tech , a home-technology design firm that works throughout Long Island, homes are not only getting smarter, they’re on the verge of genius, becoming more responsive to owner needs. No longer relying on seasonal infrastructure, summer homes are being built and upgraded at a higher level, McAuliff says. “We’re seeing bigger home generators, more robust internet connectivity with more than one point of access. We’re installing a higher level of enterprise or commercial grade equipment — almost a professional network.” McAuliff says owner occupancy into the winter holiday season or year round has caused technology upgrades in entertainment, too. “We’re seeing an increase in entertainment equipment; more media rooms with surround sounds,” he says. But specifically, he notes a trend in immersive home cinemas — dedicated space themed aesthetically to feel the like a private cinema. His firm has been installing amped-up sound systems: 13 channels is now more typical than the five-channel system of yore. And coupled with the ability to download cinema-quality films from a server, homeowners can create a superior cinema experience in their own home, without the sticky theater floors. “People have more appreciation of sound quality and they don’t want to go back to a movie theater,” he says.  In tandem with such upgrades are upgrades in security, something McAuliff says used to be an afterthought. “Now clients are very eager to have more robust security” that is not satisfied by a cloud-based application he says. He’s been installing commercial-grade systems for people who want to protect valuables as well as those who “just want to know if someone is walking around on their property when they’re not home.” In the future, McAuliff says you’ll be hearing more about wellness-driven technology such as responsive lighting and the ability to individualize air quality and temperature. And, his firm will be ready: “We are concierge technology designers,” he says.  To read the Southforker’s full article click here .

  • Acoustic Solutions – Acoustic Paneling

Acoustic paneling is one of the most useful acoustic control options that can help your business. It can provide increased audio clarity in numerous environments. Oftentimes panels are used in conferencing spaces to ensure clear discussions, but they can be equally if not more important for businesses with crowded spaces like a restaurant. Let’s take a look at our short case study on Del Vino Vineyards. When we first evaluated their property there was a noticeable echo in the space. With a full house, their stereo system was drowned out by all the commotion. This was even a larger issue when they had live music. People struggled to have a conversation and if they did it came at the cost of drowning out the live music performance. So what was our solution? We used acoustic panel inserts in their conference ceiling which was able to neutralize the echo. The paneling was integrated seamlessly into the space so it matched and enhanced the environment. It was a pleasure to work with the Giachetti Family and deliver the finely tuned experience they desired. • Premier Smart EV Charging

The growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in the U.S. has been rapid. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics , electric car sales have increased from 0.2% in 2011 to 4.6% in 2021. That’s an increase of 2400%! So, even if you don’t have an EV, it’s likely you know someone who does. With this rise in EVs, there is an increased demand for charging stations. Let us introduce you to Leviton and their smart EV charging stations. Leviton has been a leading manufacturer of electrical products for decades. Let’s outline some of the benefits of a Leviton charging station. Faster EV charging Leviton offers Level 2 charging stations, which charge an EV faster than Level 1 stations. These Level 2 charging stations can charge your EV up to 9 times faster than a standard charging station, which can take up to 20 hours to fully charge your EV. Versatile compatibility Leviton smart charging stations are compatible with most electric car models and can charge both plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles. This means you can use a Leviton charging station regardless of the make and model, Teslas included. Smart EV charging features Leviton’s charging stations come with smart charging features that allow you to monitor and control your charging sessions remotely. With the Leviton app, you can track your charging history, set charging schedules, and receive alerts when your EV is fully charged. The stations also have RFID and WiFi controls to restrict who has access. Energy-efficient The Leviton charging stations are energy-efficient and can help you save money on your energy bills. They are designed to minimize energy waste and can adjust their charging rate based on the battery level of your electric vehicle. We recently had the opportunity to have a guest from Leviton come in and talk to us about many of the benefits of having a Leviton EV charger. Check out the brief presentation on the importance of these residential and commercial charging stations and what makes them a cut above the rest.

  • Bayport-Blue Point Library

Bri-Tech is proud to have provided most of the technological infrastructure for the newly constructed Bayport-Blue Point Library. The technology framework covers their life and safety systems, intrusion protection, communications, and network infrastructure. Bri-Tech’s team installed technology to protect against intruders as well as monitor smoke, CO detectors, and sprinkler systems. Additionally, the building is outfitted with a public address system with automated messaging for closing. Bri-Tech’s audio-video division also provided the meeting and conferencing technology that enables their meeting rooms. We also want to recognize Roger Smith and BBS Architects as well as Vito Cudia Jr. and VSC Electric. Without their remarkable work, none of this would have been possible.
